| ANALYSIS |
Goff rounds out the replenishment of depth at linebacker. Based on scouting reports, he appears to be more of a run-stopping type – he led Vanderbilt in tackles for two consecutive years. He appears to be a developmental project, so he’ll probably be limited to special teams initially. Exceptionally gifted, Goff believes he can becom mre well-rounded as an athlete. "I want to be a more complete player in my eyes," he said. "I think I can be a little more aggressive, and sometimes my footwork wasn't quite what I thought it should be." |
RON & GAIL'S SCOUTING REPORT
|
Second team All-SEC in 07. Candidate for Bednarik and Bronco Nagurski awards. Finished with
112 tackles in 07 (304 tackles for his career), 7 TFL and two sacks. Productive with solid
experience, started 40 games. Team leader who is said to be very intelligent. Plays a physical,
aggressive game and is generally assignment true. Very good athlete, high school receiver with fine
agility and body control to turn and run quickly. Speedy with good overall quickness and
explosiveness. Makes plays sideline-to-sideline. Generally plays with solid technique and can drop
into coverage smoothly. Strong, particularly upper body, and powerful in run defense, rarely takes
a poor angle to the ball carrier and is quick to react. Usually stacks and sheds effectively and is a
sound tackler though not a big hitter.
Lacks elite acceleration and isn’t at his best in coverage where he can be slow to diagnose.
Hesitates when changing direction and may lack instincts in coverage. Can struggle at times to
disengage against very strong blockers. |
