QB ELI MANNING

September 26, 2007 3:48 PM

What is your mindset after getting that first win?

I think we have the same mindset.  Obviously the attitude is a little bit better, guys are excited about the first win, coming in Monday everybody was fired up to just get that first win under our belt.  We still have a lot of work to do.  They are talking about a 'saved season,' other than save we still have a lot of work to do and it starts this week against a tough opponent.  We always play Philly well; they are coming off a big win also, so both teams will be fired up.  It should be an exciting game.

What do you have to do to beat them?

We have to do the same thing we did last week.  You have to play smart football, physical football, and just give ourselves a shot to win.  We made some mistakes and did some bad things in the game last week, but we still stayed in the game and left it with a possibility to come back.

In the second half we turned it around and played well, the defense played outstanding the whole game.  We just have to play good football and find ways to get in the end zone and play smart.

What do you have to correct off last week?

Just find ways to keep going down the field, in the first half we still had two interceptions on my part.  I had a fumble.  We have to eliminate the turnovers, continue to improve, find ways to get first downs, and keep the ball in our hands.

How much does the possibility of Plaxico Burress being out for some time concern you?

We will see what happens and take it from there.

How does the offense feel this week as far as confidence?

I think our offense has felt good all season in what we have been doing and doing some good things and being able to move the ball.  There are still areas we can improve on but we are working hard.  We still have to go out there and fix some mistakes but we are doing some good things, we just have to keep that going.

Is it a different feeling when you play the last game on Sunday?

We are used to playing on Sunday night and getting that, we just have to get physically ready and get our minds set to play the Sunday night game.  It is going to be a big one.

How does the Eagle defense look without Jeremiah Trotter?

There are maybe a few little things.  He was just a big guy in the middle, he would run into the center, try to blow things up, get pushed back into the quarterback pocket when throwing, or with the running game trying to just cause some pressure up the middle.  Maybe things have changed up a little bit but they still have talented guys on defense.  A lot of the core guys are there.  The front four is extremely talented in getting pressure on the quarterback.  We are going to have to game plan and practice well this week, have a great idea of what we are doing and what we are going up against, and go out there and perform well.

Do they seem to be blitzing as much as in the past?

They are always using blitzes a pretty good bit.  They always have some confusing things and new things every game, but really a lot of their stuff just comes from their front four, a lot of talented defensive ends.  They are able to get to the quarterback without blitzing also.

After seeing them put up 56 points are you guys prepared if this one turns into a shootout?

You go into a game from an offensive standpoint just trying to do your best.  You don't try to figure out how many points you have to score.

You never know what kind of game it is going to turn out to be, you go into the game and see what it turns into and play from there.

How impressed are you with what Derrick Ward has been able to do in the first few games?

Derrick has been running well.  He is a hard worker.  He has been here a number of years and he has finally gotten his opportunity and he is taking advantage of it.  We have to keep that going and hopefully he can keep doing that and eventually we will get Brandon (Jacobs) back and get him added to the force also and get that duo going, but he has done a great job so far.

What does it mean when a guy does step up like that?

We knew Derrick was going to do fine.  He has been here, he knows the offense, he has had good preseasons, and gotten reps throughout the years during practice and whatnot, so we knew he would step in and know what is going on and perform well.  It wasn't a big shock to us.

Is Gaither as much of a presence against the run as Trotter was?

I haven't compared the two a whole lot.  They are both good players.

Obviously Gaither is a little bit younger guy but he knows what he is doing, he is talented, and he does some good things.  Both of them are good players.

What are your thoughts on the game plan if Plaxico is not able to go on Sunday?

I don't think it changes much.  We just have to do our offense and just go out there and whoever is in there at his spot has to perform well for us.

Are the sacks they got against Detroit a testament to their line or to the situation in the game?

It is a combination of both.  The first play of the game they got a sack so that wasn't situational, but also they were down a bunch of points, Detroit was, and had to throw a lot and that happens.  Pass rushers get excited when they know it is a pass and they are going for the sack.

They are talented up front and they're always capable of getting pressure on the quarterback so we have to be prepared for that.

Has Plaxico reported much to you about how his ankle has been hurting him?

I didn't notice anything.  We don't talk about injuries, I know that.

Were you surprised that he had to go see a specialist today?

We don't talk about injuries.

Has David Diehl talked to you about what happened when he gave up a sack this past Sunday?  Has he apologized or anything like that?

He doesn't have to apologize. Things happen, you can see on the film he just didn't get off on the snap.   It is just something that we have to get better at, playing on the road is loud and I have go try to be louder and make sure everybody can hear so we can get into our timing and make sure guys aren't jumping our count also.

Is there any carryover from last year being that the Eagles ended your season last year?

I don't think so.  It is a new season, a new game, and Philly is always an important game, always a physical battle, and always seems to come down to the very end no matter when we play them.  We know it is going to be a dogfight and you are going to have to play your best to win.

With Plaxico not practicing what does that do to your timing?

I think our timing was fine on what we were doing.  I think he wasn't pleased with his first half.  He had a drop on a big one early on in the game and things like that.  I think with our timing everything will be fine, it just about him getting back in the flow of things.  With anybody who doesn't practice for a week or misses a few days, it takes a little bit to get back in the flow of things.
